Different Types of Bread

Bread is the world's staple food, but in different parts of the world, it is made differently, called differently, and used differently. Here we will mention some of the bread that is made around the world.

  • Bialy comes from Bialystok, Poland. Its name is short for “bialystoker kuchen” (Bialystok cake). It is a large, flat yeast roll with a 15cm diameter. It has a depression in the middle with chopped onions and poppy seeds before baking.
  • Roti is a whole-wheat unleavened flatbread made in South Asia. It is similar to a tortilla.
  • Anpan is a sweet roll from Japan. It is filled with red bean paste or white beans, sesame, or chestnut.
  • Arepa is a flatbread made of ground maize dough or cooked flour from Colombia and Venezuela. It is served with cheese, avocado, jelly, or jam or is used to make sandwiches.
  • Baguette is French yeasted bread. It is always made in long thin loaves.
  • Bammy or bami is a traditional Jamaican flatbread made by frying a mix of cassava root and salt in coconut oil, dipped in coconut milk, then refrying.
  • Banana bread is a cake-like quick bread made with mashed bananas.
  • Bannock is a variety of quick flatbread commonly made in the United Kingdom and Canada. It is made from white or whole wheat flour, baking powder, sugar, lard, and water or milk with, sometimes, added fruit.
  • Barmbrack is yeast bread from Ireland. It is sweeter than sandwich bread but is less rich than cake. It is made with added contains sultanas and raisins.

  • Bazlama is single-layered, flat, circular, and leavened bread from Turkey.
  • Beer bread is yeasted bread made with beer. Many different kinds of bears can be used in their preparation.
  • Bhatoora is fried bread made in India. It is made from flattened dough that is fried until it puffs.
  • Bing is a Chinese flatbread. It is similar to a tortilla but much thicker.
  • Breadstics is dry bread made into sticks and often served as a snack.
  • Zwieback is German crisp and sweetened bread made with eggs and baked twice.
  • Taftan is bread from Iran. It is leavened flour bread with added saffron and cardamom powder. It is baked in a clay oven.
  • Puri is an Indian flatbread made of wheat flour and salt deep-fried in ghee or vegetable oil?
  • Proja is a bread from Serbia made of corn flour, baking powder, oil, mineral water, and salt.
  • Pizza is an oven-baked, flat, round bread typically topped with tomato sauce, cheese, and various toppings.
  • Melonpan is sweet bread from Japan. It is made from enriched dough covered in a thin layer of crisp cookie dough.
  • Laobing is a flatbread from Northern China. It is made by frying a thick unleavened salt, flour, and water batter in a pan.
  • Hushpuppies are deep-fried or baked corn dough balls.
  • Himbasha is Ethiopian and Eritrean celebration bread. It is made for celebrations, often with ginger or raisins.
  • Curry bread is made when Japanese curry is wrapped in dough. The dough is then coated in bread crumbs and then deep-fried or baked.
